Course Description: The particular course focus can vary. The course will examine the background of Church History and explore its implication for living faithfully with hope and meaning. The purpose of this course is to introduce the student to the historical background, purpose, structure, unique features, and content of Church History. The course will trace the development of the church in the West through the Apostolic/pre-modern age, the agrarian/Medieval period, the Enlightenment/Protestant Reformation era, the Revivalistic\Modern age, and the contemporary church\Postmodern age. This study will serve as a historical survey of the foundations of the postmodern church. Special attention will be given to the development of Protestantism in America, from the arrival of the Puritan/Separatists to the rise of 19th-century liberalism with its accompanying evangelical/fundamentalist reaction and the rise of postmodern theologies.
