C.S. Lewis Research Advance

 

Host: George Fox University, Newberg, Oregon

 

The Undiscovered Lewis Conference and Northwind Advance 

Showcasing lesser-known scholarship on Lewis and featuring leading international Inklings scholars. Co-sponsored by Northwind Institute.

 

Northwind Faculty will host faculty-student discussions and gatherings.  Gale Gieg will host a pre-conference Dinner Party for Northwinders at her house on Wednesday, Sept. 23, before the Conference begins on Sept. 24th at 2pm.  

 

Northwind Advance Price:  $400 Includes: Conference $200 fee, faculty consultations, group discussion, airport group transport (on Wed afternoon) and one group meal (Wed evening).

On the Edge of a Precipice: Learning from the Inklings in Wartime when civilization and cultures are on the brink… 

 

Northwind Research Advance at University of Picardie Jules Verne, Amiens, France on “Learning from the Inklings in Wartime”  • • •

• What were the Oxford Inklings up to when the winds of war were blowing?  

• What can we learn from Lewis, Tolkien, Barfield, and Williams during two world wars and the rise of fascism in Europe?

• When the center cannot hold, how shall we then live?

 

Program Fee: $600 USD  

Includes:  

• Group Registration for 4-day/4-night academic conference in France on “War, Fellowship, and Survival in the lives and works of C.S. Lewis and kindred spirits” at University of Picardie Jules Verne, Amiens; one group dinner, plus group tour of historic sites of significance to Lewis and Tolkien during WW1.

 

Extras: Participants are responsible for their own housing, travel and meals (directions and recommendations provided).

Northwind Faculty Facilitators:

Michael J. Christensen, Ph.D., is Professor of Theology and Center Director of the Romantic Theology program at Northwind Seminary.  Once Senior Resident Scholar at The Kilns (Lewis’s historic home in Oxford), he is the author of C. S. Lewis on Scripture and contributor to the C. S. Lewis Study Bible.  

 

Landon Lofton, Ph.D., is a Distinguished Lecturer at Northwind Consortia and co-author of What Barfield Thought: An Introduction to the Work of Owen Barfield.
